Dream Theater je americká progresívna metalová skupina založená v roku 1985 pod názvom Majesty Johnom Petruccim, Johnom Myungom a Mikeom Portnoyom (všetci rodáci z Long Islandu v New Yorku) počas štúdia na Berklee College of Music v Bostone, Massachusetts. Následne ukončili štúdium, aby sa ďalej sústredili na kapelu, ktorá sa nakoniec stala Dream Theater. Ich súčasnú zostavu tvoriaPetrucci, Myung, spevák James LaBrie, klávesák Jordan Rudess a bubeník Mike Mangini. Dream Theater predalo celosvetovo viac ako 12 miliónov nahrávok a získalo tri nominácie na cenu Grammy (vrátane jedného víťazstva v roku 2022).Spolu s Queensr?che a Fates Warning bola skupina označovaná ako jedna z „veľkej trojky“ žánru progresívneho metalu, ktorá je zodpovedná za jeho rozvoj a popularizáciu.
